Studio One Eleven and LINC Housing recently celebrated the grand opening of Mosaic Gardens at Willowbrook.
Mosaic Gardens is a 61 unit affordable community, in which 31 units are set aside specifically for formerly homeless individuals and families and an additional 30 units for low-income families. The development offers life-enhancing services and provides residents with a new avenue of affordable housing in the community of Willowbrook. We are proud to say that today 61 homeless and low-income families now have a place to call home at Mosaic Gardens at Willowbrook.
The project developed four years ago, when Studio One Eleven met with Pastor Glass from the Fellowship Baptist Church in the community of Willowbrook. At that time, our firm was beginning to study a site only five blocks away for an affordable and homeless housing development with LINC Housing. Pastor Glass took a strong interest in seeing affordable housing come to the community of Willowbrook. She formed a committee of community members and local homeless to help steer the effort in a positive direction. Studio One Eleven and LINC Housing met with the steering committee, listened to their hopes and concerns and created a project that truly reflected the community’s history and future needs.
“Our architects, Michael Bohn and Erika Stubstad from Studio One Eleven were just one of the many partners on this job," said Rebecca Clark, President & CEO for LINC Housing. “They were some of the key players that listened to the community, heard their vision and created a design that reflected the vision of Willowbrook.”

Studio One Eleven’s design for the project was inspired by the historic land uses of the surrounding area. The nearby lots were originally zoned for agriculture and today remain lined with ranch style homes, intended to incorporate farming. Inspired by the rich history of the community, Studio One Eleven designed Mosaic Gardens to resemble a modern “farm-house” with crisp white siding, board and batten and sloped roof lines. The building style abstractly recalls the community’s agricultural past with a farm house, shed, barn and packing house.
Studio One Eleven intended the space to feel open, light and welcoming for the tenants and envisioned a space that residents could call home. The architecture evokes a light and airy atmosphere with open hallways, patios, and terraced facades which pull in natural light. The 61 units are a mix of one, two and three bedrooms which are intermixed between affordable and homeless housing. A multi-purpose community room with a kitchen, community garden, playground and computer lab provide gathering spaces for residents to engage and gain access to a wide range of social and supportive services.
Our goal at Studio One Eleven is to dedicate our time and effort towards engaging and helping our communities.
We recently volunteered to deliver care packages and welcome home signs to the units at Willowbrook. We distributed cookware, bedding, shampoo and soap, to help assist residents as they moved into their new homes at Mosaic Gardens.
We are excited to be involved in such a life changing, community driven project and would like to extend a huge congratulations to LINC Housing on the grand opening of Mosaic Gardens.
We look forwad to seeing what future growth will develop for the community of Willowbrook.
