Simple, cost effective design interventions that activate public space

Inspired by Park(ing) Day, the Long Beach Parklet Program began in 2011 as a tactical urbanism pilot project deployed by Studio One Eleven in partnership with the City of Long Beach. Click here to view the full Parklet Study presented by Studio One Eleven.

Parklets are simple, cost effective design interventions that radically improve the economic vitality of local businesses, activate public space, improve street safety and create a sense of community.

At Last Cafe

Berlin Bistro

By constructing street decks or concrete bulb-outs to expand the sidewalk, parklets convert existing curbside parking stalls into outdoor seating. They serve as quick, easy and cost-effective interventions that enable growing business to expand their dining space and increase visibility.

Lola's Mexican Cuisine

Studio One Eleven designed the first parklets in Southern California—Lola’s Mexican Cuisine, Berlin Bistro and At Last Cafe—and continues to expand their parklet portfolio across Long Beach and Southern California. Each solution is tailored to the unique characteristics of a business to create a vibrant public realm and lasting value for neighborhood.
