Studio One Eleven is excited to announce our Senior Studio Director, Kirk Keller, will be participating in the 2022 LANI Virtual Community Forum on May 26, 2022. The forum, 'Session 2: Creating Green & Open Space by Transforming Underutilized Lots' will be discussing how to create a vibrant park from a blighted vacant lot. Studio One Eleven worked with LANI and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to develop this project, Western Gage Park, and it was completed in early 2021.
According to LANI, "The well-documented benefits of green and open spaces include positive impacts on physical health, mental health, the environment and community development and prosperity. But with limited real estate, it is often a challenge finding and transforming locations to create these essential neighborhood assets. In addition, there is an urgent need to create park and green equity in neighborhoods that are majority Black, Latino, or other people of color. The good news is that parks, urban forests, community gardens, and recreational open space can thrive in lots as small as a tennis court and in urban pockets that are often overlooked. Our panelists will discuss how to increase green and open space in urban neighborhoods by transforming overlooked lots."
Before: Underutilized Lot in South LA
