Our project, Oatsie’s Place, located in the Van Nuys neighborhood of Los Angeles, was celebrated on February 8, 2023 with a toast and preview at the construction site. Remarks were given by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, as well as Amy Turk, CEO of Downtown Women’s Center and Los Angeles County Board Supervisor, Lindsey Horvath. This is an exciting next step forward for this modular, supportive housing project that will bring 45-units of much-need housing to individual women, families, and trauma survivors who have experienced homelessness and domestic violence.
Oatsie’s Place is named for activist and journalist Marylouise Oates, who helped the Downtown Women’s Center raise money for housing. Oatsie awarded us with her attendance that day showing her full support. Oatsie’s Place will be a safe place to stay with supportive services to help this community.
