Soriano House Tour with Fort LA
On August 10th our founding partner, Alan Pullman, welcomed guest speakers Wolfgang Wagener and Frances Anderson with FORT LA to his home (the Kimpson-Nixon House) which was designed by the renowned architect Soriano in 1940.
The event featured three distinguished speakers:
- Wolfgang Wagener shared fascinating insights into Soriano’s design principles and their ongoing influence on modern landscaping while giving an in-depth exploration of the historical context of the garden and its significance within the architectural movement of the time.
- Frances Anderson moderated a lively discussion between Wolfgang and Alan with participation from Alan’s wife Stephanie Pullman and fellow Soriano house owner Ricky Siaz
- Alan Pullman shared his experience living in and restoring Soriano’s only Long Beach house, influenced by the principles of Modernist garden-style living.
The conversation offered a rich blend of historical perspective and forward-thinking ideas.
The conversation was followed by a tour of the house where guests were invited to view some pieces of history connected to it, such as original analog prints by Julius Shulman and magazines which we’re hung up for display.
