This year’s theme, “Design Futurism,” explores how design can shape more equitable, intentional, and imaginative futures.
From June 26–29, the district comes alive with exhibitions, pop-ups, and hands-on workshops, kicking off with a Friday night block party on the Mosaic Promenade featuring open studios, music by Zikomo, local vendors, and interactive installations, including Metapunkz’s Love Kitties in Space and Rainbow Machine by Nathan Amondson and RDC–S111 Maker Group. Free and open to the public, 6–9 PM.
Additional festival highlights include a speculative installation by Kevin Sherrod at Acres of Books, a Design Dinner by James Tir, a Kintsugi workshop and pop-up by Pieces of Japan at Intertrend’s Psychic Temple, and CSULB’s immersive happenings inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma (間). Plus: Taco Shop Poetry by Adolfo Guzman-Lopez, a dumpling-making workshop at Midnight Oil, architectural tours, and much more. We’re also launching 10 Degrees Cooler, a citywide poster campaign celebrating Long Beach’s creative spirit.
