Studio One Eleven Participates as Co-Chair and Speaks at the International Parklet Symposium, California

Studio One Eleven participated in the International Parklet Symposium, held in San Francisco and organized by the San Francisco Planning Department in partnership with global urban design and placemaking leaders. Shruti Shankar, Urban Design Director, served as Co-Chair, alongside contributions from Jitka Dekojova, Project Manager, and speaker Kirk Keller, Landscape Principal. Together, they joined leaders across North America to explore the future of streets as public space.

City streets have evolved over the past two decades in response to new challenges and complexities. Interventions like parklets, pedestrian plazas, and open streets have been at the forefront, sparking joy while reimagining what urban public space can be.

At the International Parklet Symposium, Studio One Eleven joined a cross-disciplinary group of architects, planners, policymakers, and community leaders from across North America to exchange ideas on how streets can better serve people in the decade ahead.

As a practice rooted in placemaking and community-driven design, our work continues to align with this growing movement—transforming underutilized spaces into active, human-centered environments. The symposium featured case studies, panel discussions, workshops, and site tours across San Francisco, highlighting innovative approaches to design, policy, and implementation. It also contributes to the upcoming California Open Streets White Paper, outlining opportunities to advance more inclusive and adaptable public realm strategies statewide.
