Porch: Bringing the Inside Out and Inviting the Outside In
Studio One Eleven opens its doors every second Thursday for Porch, a monthly series that brings neighbors, artists, makers, local businesses, and curious minds together to create, exchange ideas, and commune.
Part of our growing Urban Lab and Downtown Long Beach Design District initiatives, Porch puts our ideas about placemaking into practice, turning our studio and the Promenade into a gathering place for the community.
Each month, we invite people to make something, learn something, or celebrate something. You might try your hand at a new craft, hear from someone doing interesting work, discover a local business, or simply enjoy music, food, drinks, and good company. Some evenings bring all three together.
We kicked off the series on September 10 with What Are Our Plants Telling Us?, a hands-on copper stamping workshop led by Tanya Monique Crane, jewelry designer and Professor of 3D Foundations, Jewelry and Sculpture at Long Beach City College. Guests learned a new technique and created their own plant markers inspired by nature.
On October 8, BC’s ICYS took over the Promenade Porch for a mini block party with Italian ice, cocktails, mocktails, music, and good company. BC hosted a live edition of WILL IT ICY? and a mini cocktail lesson while a DJ kept the music going.
Porch builds on our belief that an architecture studio can be more than a workplace. By opening our doors, we create opportunities to share ideas, support local talent, and strengthen the creative community around us, one Thursday at a time.
Join us every second Thursday. Bring a friend, try something new, and see what’s happening on the Porch.
