The Senior Arts Colony (SAC) is a 200-unit senior affordable housing community which marks the northern gateway into downtown Long Beach.

Following completion, the SAC has become a catalyst for revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood. As a result of the SAC’s success, several market-rate, mixed-use housing developments have been completed nearby and the City has initiated a program to assist in renovating neighboring commercial storefronts, attracting a diversity of retailers including a brewery and rock-climbing gym directly across the street.

Considered a Transit Oriented Development, the project is immediately adjacent to light rail and the most heavily used bus corridor in the city, which provides access to educational, medical, retail, and employment centers. The SAC’s design, amenities, and programs are geared toward active, income-qualified seniors aged 55 years and over with a passion for the arts. The community promotes “healthy aging” emphasizing creativity, wellness, lifelong learning, and independence.  In addition, SAC residents have become influential community stakeholders, successfully petitioning the city to improve a park one block away.
