Studio One Eleven is collaborating with PlaceWorks, the City of Long Beach and the Downtown Long Beach community on the Downtown Shoreline Vision Plan—a transformative urban design initiative reimagining Long Beach’s waterfront as “Everyone’s Shoreline.”
This community-driven effort builds on the area’s existing strengths to create a more inclusive, connected, and resilient destination that reflects the city’s unique identity.
The Vision Plan focuses on equitable development, public access, and environmental sustainability. It proposes enhancements such as improved pedestrian and bicycle connectivity, the creation of flexible public spaces, and the integration of ecological features like wetlands to address sea-level rise and promote biodiversity. These strategies aim to foster a waterfront that is accessible and welcoming to all residents and visitors.
Through design charrettes, public forums, and surveys, diverse voices have shaped the Vision Plan’s guiding principles and “Big Ideas.” Anchored in four character areas along the waterfront, these include transforming underutilized areas into vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods, enhancing cultural and recreational amenities, and strengthening connections between the waterfront and downtown Long Beach.
As the project progresses, Studio One Eleven remains committed to collaborating with the City of Long Beach and its residents to realize a waterfront that embodies the spirit of “Building on Shoreline’s Best.” Together, we aim to create a dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable shoreline that serves as a model for urban waterfront development.
